A quality heritage fridge magnet, designed, carved and handcrafted in Great Britain and featuring a Scottish highland croft.
The Highland Croft was a simple, single-storey, thatched dwelling, built to protect the Highlanders and their animals, with which they shared their croft, from a rigorous climate.
The thatch was made from grass or heather, and the fire was often set in the middle of the room, to provide maximum heat to the entire household.
The door of a Highland Croft was never locked as Highlanders believed they had a moral obligation to welcome strangers and provide hospitality for friends and neighbours. A key, therefore, was associated with inhospitality and meanness.
The magnet comes comes on an attractive display card which details the history of the design on the reverse, and will make a lovely little gift and memento for anyone with a love of Scotland.
